Happy New Year!

I hope you had a great break over the festive season, and that 2017 treats you a lot more kindly that 2016 seemed to!

This year at SewSquirrel, we are going to blog around particular themes each month. To celebrate the beginning of what we hope will be a great year for everyone, this month our theme is NEW.

New year, new beginnings, new skills, new patterns, new laces. We will try to visit a little something new from all these areas on the blog in the coming weeks.

For starters, I'd like to highlight some fresh items in the store:

  • Madalynne x Simplicity patterns S8228 and S8229 are now available for order. I have View B of S8228 (the racerback view) cut and ready to sew. I'm looking forward to wearing it peeking out from under summery tanks on the hot days that are about to hit Melbourne! Madalynne has a series of tutorials on her blog describing variations to her patterns, as well as a video tutorial for S8229. Worth having a look at the variety of styles you can achieve from one pattern!

  • As well as the Madalynne patterns, we now carry a selection of Simplicity and BurdaStyle intimate, activewear and swimwear patterns. We hope to add new season styles as they are released to the southern hemisphere, and are in the process of adding BMV patterns to our catalogue as well.
  • Rose gold rings and sliders are now in stock. We have them in 12mm and 15mm, and I think they look especially pretty with the pink and peach single bra kits

  • We have received a big shipment of Jalie patterns. A great range of intimate and activewear patterns are now in stock. If you are after a pattern that we do not currently stock, please contact us. I'm very happy to order in any of the Jalie patterns especially for you!
  • We also received a limited number of Bra Makers Supply Trios. Trios are carefully selected combinations of duoplex, powernet and gorgeous lace, packaged ready for you to make up as you please. All you need to do is choose the Findings Kit to complement your Trio, and you're on your way to sewing a beautiful custom bra!

Pinterest is another new obsession of mine. I have spent far too much time curating a number of boards full of bra making inspiration. Check out the boards full of halterneck and racerback bras to inspire your version of S8228! There are also boards featuring finished versions of some of the patterns found in the store, to help you decide if a particular style is for you, or not. I'll be adding more boards as time goes on, so please follow or check back often, to see what beauties I've found!

I'd love to showcase customer creations as time goes on, and I love to hear your feedback. If you have a photo of your work you'd like to share, please use the hashtag #shopsewsquirrel on Instagram, or post it on the Facebook page. I'm planning a regular Finished Object Friday post, and I'd love to share your work as well as mine.

Speaking of Instagram, I have just launched a giveaway of a $50 voucher to the shop! If you are active on Instagram, all you need to do is find one of the competition posts, follow @ShopSewSquirrel, tag a friend and share to your timeline. Your account will need to be public for me to be able to see your entry. The competition closes 11:59pm AEDT Sunday 8th January, and the lucky winner will be announced Monday 9th.

Phew, a lot of news to get through! I'll be back with a brand new bra on Friday, in a famous maker stretch lace that I'm super excited about. There's a sneak peek of the lace in the pic above!
